Deputy General Manager for Corporate and Community, Martin Hiscox, has announced his
retirement after an impressive 38 years of dedicated service to Narrandera Shire Council.

Martin began his local government career in 1978, starting out at North-West Electricity in Inverell
where he is originally from, moving to Narrabri Shire Council for four years, before joining
Narrandera Shire Council in 1986. Making his total career in local government span 46 years.

Since joining Council, Martin has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment, working
his way up through the ranks. He managed Council’s finance and information teams from 1986-
2003, before moving into the role of Deputy General Manager Corporate and Community in 2004.

During Martin’s tenure at Council, he has witnessed 15 terms of Council, the revision of the Local
Government Act in 1993, a transition to international accounting standards, two computer system
upgrades for Council, and extensive changes to the breadth of services supplied by Council to
the community.

Mr. Hiscox said, “I have always enjoyed living and working in this community, and our family has
grown up here. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to support the local basketball association
as a coach and committee treasurer, assist the junior cricket team, and serve as treasurer for St.
Mel’s Catholic Church".

General Manager George Cowan is saddened that Mr Hiscox is leaving the organisation, “Martin
has been a valuable part of life in Narrandera Shire. We will certainly miss him and the vast
expertise that he has provided".

His invaluable contributions have made a lasting impact on Council and the community it serves.
