George Cowan has been re-appointed to the role of General Manager of Narrandera Shire Council, following his successful tenure since 2017. Councillors at the February meeting, resolved to extend the contract for an additional five-year term continuing with the existing contract agreement.
Mr Cowan has welcomed the outcome, “It has been a privilege to serve the people of Narrandera Shire and I am really looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead. Local Government is about improving the quality of life of the residents, and we have been able to deliver that with many improvements including upgrades to parks, roads, community halls and of course the pool and the sportsgrounds.”
“There is much more to do, and I would certainly like to fix the water problems and see the upgrades in the main street and at the airport.”
“We have a great team at Council led by Mayor Cr Neville Kschenka and the councillors who all have the community at heart and are backed up by staff who in the large part are hardworking and dedicated,” Mr Cowan continued.
Mayor Cr Neville Kschenka is pleased with the decision, noting the past five years have seen many major successes for Narrandera Shire. Most notably, securing a $8 million project, “The Playground on the Murrumbidgee” which at the time was the largest single funded project in the Cootamundra Electorate.
“We have seen many projects come to fruition under General Manager George Cowan’s leadership, and I am eager to see what more we can achieve through his directive over the coming years,” said Mayor Kschenka.
